Description
Return nominal contact-volume equivalent.
Aquaponic flow and storage models depend on usable pore space, reserve volume, pump head and operating duration. An ideal hydraulic power or nominal turnover term describes supplied values while actual flow distribution, aeration and equipment performance require measurement and system design.
Return nominal contact-volume equivalent.
When to use this tool
Use Recirculation Contact Volume Factor when checking the stated aquaponic flow, volume or power term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter flow, contactDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read equivalentVolume. Use the output convention below.
Return nominal contact-volume equivalent. Require flow/contactDuration >= 0; equivalentVolume = flow*duration.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| flow | Flow | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| contactDuration | Contact Duration | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| equivalentVolume | Equivalent Volume | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Flow/time units must match; no actual residence-time distribution, treatment efficacy or suitable operating conditions are determined.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use measured flows and verified equipment/system specifications with qualified engineering and aquaculture review for real operation.
