Water Flow Tank Volume Ratio Tool

Report a supplied working-volume turnover term after explicit bypass, without husbandry recommendations.

Description

Return bypass-adjusted flow and nominal tank turnover rate.

Tank geometry, exchange and equipment budgets use explicit volume, flow, mixing and efficiency assumptions. Ideal complete mixing differs from replacing distinct water portions, and energy usage differs from power. Nominal calculations do not establish actual oxygenation, animal welfare or safe installation.

Return bypass-adjusted flow and nominal tank turnover rate.

When to use this tool

Use Water Flow Tank Volume Ratio when checking the stated aquaculture geometry, exchange or equipment term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter flowVolumePerTime, workingTankVolume, bypassFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read effectiveFlow, turnoverRate. Use the output convention below.

Return bypass-adjusted flow and nominal tank turnover rate. Require flow >= 0, workingTankVolume > 0 and bypassFraction in [0,1]; effectiveFlow = flow*(1-bypass), turnoverRate = effectiveFlow/volume.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Turnover has inverse-time units and is not necessarily independent water replacement; actual mixing, welfare and suitable exchange are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Verify actual tank geometry, mixing and equipment performance, and obtain qualified aquaculture/engineering advice for operation and safety.
