Description
Return retained original water under an exchange policy.
Tank geometry, exchange and equipment budgets use explicit volume, flow, mixing and efficiency assumptions. Ideal complete mixing differs from replacing distinct water portions, and energy usage differs from power. Nominal calculations do not establish actual oxygenation, animal welfare or safe installation.
Return retained original water under an exchange policy.
When to use this tool
Use Tank Exchange Fraction Per Cycle when checking the stated aquaculture geometry, exchange or equipment term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter exchangedVolume, tankVolume, cycles, independentCompleteMixing. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read singleFraction, retainedOriginalFraction. Use the output convention below.
Return retained original water under an exchange policy. Require positive tank volume, bounded exchangedVolume and nonnegative whole cycles; singleFraction = exchanged/tank, retention = (1-fraction)^cycles for independentCompleteMixing, otherwise max(0,1-cycles*fraction).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| exchangedVolume | Exchanged Volume | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| tankVolume | Tank Volume | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| cycles | Cycles | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| independentCompleteMixing | True retains (1-singleFraction)^cycles; false uses max(0,1-cycles*singleFraction), a distinct-water accounting convention. | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| singleFraction | Single Fraction | Required. Finite number. |
| retainedOriginalFraction | Retained Original Fraction | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The linear alternative assumes distinct original water removed rather than repeated complete mixing; actual hydraulics and appropriate exchange are not verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
