Description
Expand sampled cohort mass to a whole cohort estimate.
Aquaculture estimates expand supplied samples, classify explicit counts and compare measurements with caller-chosen references. A zero placeholder or split count is a reporting result rather than evidence of absence or a biological diagnosis. Sampling representativeness and actual animal conditions require separate assessment.
Expand sampled cohort mass to a whole cohort estimate.
When to use this tool
Use Cohort Biomass Sample Factor when checking the stated aquaculture estimate, class or record convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter sampleMass, sampleCount, cohortCount. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read meanMass, estimatedBiomass. Use the output convention below.
Expand sampled cohort mass to a whole cohort estimate. Require sampleMass >= 0, whole sampleCount >= 1 and cohortCount >= sampleCount; meanMass = sampleMass/sampleCount, estimatedBiomass = mean*cohortCount.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| sampleMass | Sample Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| sampleCount | Sample Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| cohortCount | Cohort Count | Required. Safe integer. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| meanMass | Mean Mass | Required. Finite number. |
| estimatedBiomass | Estimated Biomass | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The sample must be representative; no sampling uncertainty, actual animal count or appropriate stocking level is verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated representative measurements and an appropriate complete statistical or husbandry assessment with qualified professionals.
