Biomass Count Sample Expansion Tool

Expand a supplied representative sample mean to a supplied total count without species or growth assumptions.

Loading tool…

Description

Return sampled mean weight and expanded total mass.

Aquaculture estimates expand supplied samples, classify explicit counts and compare measurements with caller-chosen references. A zero placeholder or split count is a reporting result rather than evidence of absence or a biological diagnosis. Sampling representativeness and actual animal conditions require separate assessment.

Return sampled mean weight and expanded total mass.

When to use this tool

Use Biomass Count Sample Expansion when checking the stated aquaculture estimate, class or record convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleMass, sampledCount, totalCount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read meanMass, expandedMass. Use the output convention below.

Return sampled mean weight and expanded total mass. Require whole sampledCount >= 1, totalCount >= sampled and sampleMass >= 0; mean = mass/sampleCount, expandedMass = mean*totalCount.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes representative sampling without a statistical error estimate or welfare/stocking recommendation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated representative measurements and an appropriate complete statistical or husbandry assessment with qualified professionals.
