Queen Excluder Slats Spacing Checker
Screen excluder gaps against measured worker maximum/queen minimum widths; sample selectivity is not a universal morphology rule or guarantee that bees pass in practice.
Description
Excluder selectivity compares measured gap sizes with sampled worker and queen widths.
Excluder selectivity compares measured gap sizes with sampled worker and queen widths. Largest-worker and smallest-queen measurements define separate pass and block conditions.1
Screen excluder gaps against measured worker maximum/queen minimum widths; sample selectivity is not a universal morphology rule or guarantee that bees pass in practice.
When to use Queen Excluder Slats Spacing Checker
Use this tool to screen excluder gaps against measured worker maximum/queen minimum widths; sample selectivity is not a universal morphology rule or guarantee that bees pass in practice.
Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
How to use Queen Excluder Slats Spacing Checker and understand its results
- Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
- Enter workerWidthsMm, queenWidthsMm, slatGapsMm using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read allSampleWorkersPassFlags, allSampleQueensBlockedFlags, sampleSelectiveGapFlags. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| workerWidthsMm | Worker widths mm | list of number | Required |
| queenWidthsMm | Queen widths mm | list of number | Required |
| slatGapsMm | Slat gaps mm | list of number | Required |
Enter nonempty positive worker and queen widths and nonempty nonnegative gap measurements in mm. For each gap return binary all-sampled-workers-pass and all-sampled-queens-blocked flags, plus their product as selective. Equality at a queen's minimum width does not count as blocking.
workersPass = gap≥maxWorkerWidth; queensBlocked = gap<minQueenWidth Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| allSampleWorkersPassFlags | All sample workers pass flags | list of number |
| allSampleQueensBlockedFlags | All sample queens blocked flags | list of number |
| sampleSelectiveGapFlags | Sample selective gap flags | list of number |

} Limitations and assumptions
This dimensional sample screen does not guarantee actual passage, orientation or behavior. It contains no universal morphology rule or fixed excluder gap.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Bee Space 9MM Compliance Checker: Audit measured bee-space gaps against a caller manufacturing band; historical 9 mm route name does not impose a universal biological or regulatory standard. For a complementary task, use Comb Cell Diameter Worker Drone Checker: Screen comb diameters against caller worker/drone bands; codes 0 neither, 1 worker, 2 drone, 3 ambiguous overlap, without identifying brood occupants.
