Brood Pattern Solidity Score Percent
Measure occupancy and largest four-neighbor empty patch inside a recorded brood-cell grid; excluded cells do not enter the denominator and no queen-health or disease diagnosis is invented.
Description
Brood solidity describes occupied cells within an observed pattern.
Brood solidity describes occupied cells within an observed pattern. Empty-patch size adds spatial information that the occupied percentage alone cannot reveal.1
Measure occupancy and largest four-neighbor empty patch inside a recorded brood-cell grid; excluded cells do not enter the denominator and no queen-health or disease diagnosis is invented.
When to use Brood Pattern Solidity Score Percent
Use this tool to measure occupancy and largest four-neighbor empty patch inside a recorded brood-cell grid; excluded cells do not enter the denominator and no queen-health or disease diagnosis is invented.
Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
How to use Brood Pattern Solidity Score Percent and understand its results
- Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
- Enter broodCellGrid using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read observedCellCount, occupiedBroodPercent, largestEmptyPatchCells. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| broodCellGrid | Brood cell grid | list of list of number | Required |
Supply a nonempty rectangular grid using zero for excluded/outside cells, one for occupied brood and two for observed empty cells. At least one cell must be observable. Count only ones and twos in the denominator and use four-neighbor flood fill for empty patches. Return observed count, occupied percent and largest connected empty patch.
occupiedPercent = 100 occupied/(occupied+empty); largest patch = maximum four-neighbor empty component Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| observedCellCount | Observed cell count | number |
| occupiedBroodPercent | Occupied brood percent | number |
| largestEmptyPatchCells | Largest empty patch cells | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
Diagonal contacts alone do not connect patches. The grid and observability are supplied observations; solidity does not diagnose queen health or disease.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Matrices are limited to 128 rows and 128 entries per row; other numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Pollination Hive Strength Grading Scorer: Audit supplied pollination-strength contract criteria with explicit frame/brood/queen reason bits; no standardized grade, health certification or crop pollination guarantee. For a complementary task, use Sealed Brood Area Population Estimate: Estimate sealed cells and expected viable emergence from disjoint measured brood areas and caller cell-density/viability calibration; not a fixed frame population lookup.
