Beeswax Yield Cappings Ratio

Balance disjoint water/honey fractions out of wet cappings and apply caller rendering recovery to residual dry wax; excludes unmeasured debris and no fixed wax-yield ratio.

Description

Wet cappings include water and honey as well as wax.

Wet cappings include water and honey as well as wax. Subtracting disjoint supplied fractions before applying rendering recovery avoids equating gross wet mass with recoverable wax.1

Balance disjoint water/honey fractions out of wet cappings and apply caller rendering recovery to residual dry wax; excludes unmeasured debris and no fixed wax-yield ratio.

When to use Beeswax Yield Cappings Ratio

Use this tool to balance disjoint water/honey fractions out of wet cappings and apply caller rendering recovery to residual dry wax; excludes unmeasured debris and no fixed wax-yield ratio.

Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.

How to use Beeswax Yield Cappings Ratio and understand its results

  1. Prepare the hive, sample or operating measurements and any supplied target values. Confirm units, timing and whether counts or masses refer to the same population or batch.
  2. Enter wetCappingsKg, waterMassFraction, solubleHoneyMassFraction, waxRenderingRecoveryFraction using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read estimatedDryWaxKg, expectedRenderedWaxKg. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement

waterMassFractionWater mass fractionnumberRequired
solubleHoneyMassFractionSoluble honey mass fractionnumberRequired
waxRenderingRecoveryFractionWax rendering recovery fractionnumberRequired

Enter nonnegative wet kg and water, soluble-honey and rendering fractions in [0,1]. Water plus honey may not exceed one. Return estimated remaining dry wax and expected rendered wax in kg; a sum of one leaves no modeled wax.

dryWax = wetMass(1−waterFraction−honeyFraction); renderedWax = dryWax × recoveryFraction

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Water and honey fractions must be disjoint on the same wet-mass basis. Unmeasured debris is not separately deducted, and recovery is a supplied estimate rather than observed yield.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Wax Rendering Loss Percent: Measure purity-corrected rendering wax losses instead of calling all crude-to-refined mass loss wax loss; matched material basis and assay representativeness are caller responsibilities. For a complementary task, use Honey Yield Per Super Estimate: Measure per-super honey recovery and residual from matched full/post-extraction frame weights and tares; frame wax/wood tare must remain constant.
