Reflective Journal Prompt Response Span Tool

Extract a caller-marked half-open Unicode code-point response span; no reflective-quality inference is performed.

Description

Extract a reflective-response span by Unicode code-point indexes.

Adult-learning records allocate supplied participation, contact time, credits and optional requirements. A local fraction or eligibility predicate follows the chosen counting policy; it does not assess learning quality, recognize a qualification or establish contractual entitlement. Excluded and optional components can change the denominator.

Extract a reflective-response span by Unicode code-point indexes.

When to use this tool

Use Reflective Journal Prompt Response Span when checking the stated adult-learning participation, requirement, text or time convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter text, start, end. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read response, codePoints. Use the output convention below.

Extract a reflective-response span by Unicode code-point indexes. Require whole 0 <= start <= end <= code-point length; return the half-open slice and end-start count.1

Unicode code points and UTF-16 code units are different counting units. Neither alone measures user-perceived grapheme clusters or rendered text width.2

Limitations and assumptions

  • Indexes are not UTF-16 units or graphemes; no prompt recognition, reflection quality or learner meaning is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the actual course plan, learner needs and governing credit/recognition policy with the responsible educational team for substantive decisions.
