Learning Goal Optional Share Tool

Calculate learning goal optional share from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return selected optional-goal share.

Adult-learning records allocate supplied participation, contact time, credits and optional requirements. A local fraction or eligibility predicate follows the chosen counting policy; it does not assess learning quality, recognize a qualification or establish contractual entitlement. Excluded and optional components can change the denominator.

Return selected optional-goal share.

When to use this tool

Use Learning Goal Optional Share when checking the stated adult-learning participation, requirement, text or time convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter required, optional, selectedOptional. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read selectedTotal, optionalShare. Use the output convention below.

Return selected optional-goal share. Require nonnegative whole required/optional and selectedOptional <= optional with positive selected total; selectedTotal = required+selectedOptional, optionalShare = selectedOptional/selectedTotal.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Unselected optional goals are excluded from the denominator; actual choice, attainment and appropriate course design are not evaluated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the actual course plan, learner needs and governing credit/recognition policy with the responsible educational team for substantive decisions.
