Public Census Enumeration Token Tool

Parse a supplied edition namespace and two opaque enumeration-reference components, preserving unresolved suffix text without inferring people or places.

Description

Parse a source-namespaced census reference.

Historical and archival records distinguish source labels, local grid conventions, edition numbers and validity periods. A parsed token or geometric area term cannot establish provenance, historical identity or land rights. Date endpoints, text-counting units and numbering origins must match the original record.

Parse a source-namespaced census reference.

When to use this tool

Use Public Census Enumeration Token when checking the stated archival record, grid, edition or validity-period convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter reference, editionNamespace, separator. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read namespace, components, unresolvedSuffix. Use the output convention below.

Parse a source-namespaced census reference. Require nonempty namespace/separator and literal prefix; split the remainder into at least two nonempty parts, return the first two components and rejoin any unresolved suffix.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • No census edition, field semantics, document locator or source authenticity is resolved.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the original archive, survey and applicable authority for historical interpretation, provenance or actual property rights.
