Woody Biomass Sample Expansion Tool

Expand supplied representative dry-biomass sample mass and an explicit design weight without a species allometry or growth model.

Description

Return sampleDryMass*targetArea/sampleArea*weight.

Agroforestry observations combine sampled areas, cohort counts, source uncertainty and caller-supplied response assumptions. A sample expansion or conditional yield term can be computed independently of sampling representativeness or a validated tree-crop interaction. Unknown source flags must retain their reporting meaning.

Return sampleDryMass*targetArea/sampleArea*weight.

When to use this tool

Use Woody Biomass Sample Expansion when checking the stated cohort, sample-expansion or assumed-response convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleDryMass, sampleArea, targetArea, suppliedInclusionWeight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read expandedMass. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative sample dry mass, target area and supplied inclusion weight, with positive sample area. Return sampleDryMass*targetArea/sampleArea*weight.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Expansion assumes the supplied sample and weight represent the target; no sampling design or uncertainty is estimated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use representative verified samples and an appropriate complete ecological/statistical model for abundance, yield response and uncertainty.
