Agroforestry Benefit Caller Discount Term Tool

Discount one supplied benefit under an explicit constant-rate convention.

Loading tool…

Description

Return benefit*(1+rate)^(-year), allowing signed benefit and fractional year.

Agroforestry cost and benefit terms depend on labor exposure, shared allocations, grants and discount periods. Person-hours differ from elapsed crew-hours, and a single discounted benefit differs from a complete investment appraisal. Prices, allocations and discount rates must be supplied on compatible bases.

Return benefit*(1+rate)^(-year), allowing signed benefit and fractional year.

When to use this tool

Use Agroforestry Benefit Caller Discount Term when checking the stated tree/crop cost, labor or discounted-benefit contribution.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter benefit, year, suppliedRate. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read presentValue. Use the output convention below.

Require year>=0 and suppliedRate>-1. Return benefit*(1+rate)^(-year), allowing signed benefit and fractional year.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Rate is a fraction per matching year; one discounted cash flow does not establish investment value or a suitable discount rate.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Build a complete budget with verified costs, timing, uncertainty and applicable agreements for actual investment, labor or grant decisions.
