Field Margin Flower Count Expansion

Expand a supplied flower count by surveyed-to-total margin length under an explicit uniform-density assumption.

Loading tool…

Description

Expand supplied observed flowers from sampled to full margin length.

Agroecological metrics depend on sampling units, nonoverlapping coverage categories, mass bases and area denominators. Yield per whole plot differs from yield per allocated crop area, and literal crop-code richness per area is not rarefied diversity. Local count expansion assumes comparable density beyond the sampled segment.

Expand supplied observed flowers from sampled to full margin length.

When to use this tool

Use Field Margin Flower Count Expansion when you already have observedFlowers, surveyedLength, fullMarginLength and need to expand supplied observed flowers from sampled to full margin length.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter observedFlowers, surveyedLength, fullMarginLength. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read estimatedFlowers. Use the output convention below.

Require observedFlowers a nonnegative safe whole count, surveyedLength>0 and fullMarginLength>=surveyed; multiply count by full/surveyed.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
observedFlowersObserved FlowersRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
surveyedLengthSurveyed LengthRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
fullMarginLengthFull Margin LengthRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
estimatedFlowersObserved count*(full length/surveyed length); fractional estimate under uniform comparable-density assumptions.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The numeric estimate can be fractional and assumes comparable uniform flower density. No randomness, detection correction, uncertainty or representative sampling is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete survey, experiment and ecological analysis. Check detection, spatial variation, sampling representativeness and resource boundaries before interpreting local fractions or supplied labels as ecological benefits or suitable practices.
