Nutrient Moisture Basis Gap Tool

Calculate nutrient moisture basis gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return expectedDryBasis=asReceived/dryFraction and supplied-minus-expected residual.

Nutrient labels can report elements, oxide equivalents or fractions on wet, dry or anhydrous material bases. Stoichiometric conversion requires a verified chemical identity and the correct factor direction. A supplied source label and numerical factor record assumptions rather than proving the underlying chemical definition.

Return expectedDryBasis=asReceived/dryFraction and supplied-minus-expected residual.

When to use this tool

Use Nutrient Moisture Basis Gap when checking the stated nutrient, moisture or elemental-equivalent convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter asReceived, dryFraction, suppliedDryBasis. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read expectedDryBasis, residual. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative as-received and supplied dry-basis values with 0<dryFraction<=1. Return expectedDryBasis=asReceived/dryFraction and supplied-minus-expected residual.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
asReceivedAs ReceivedRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.

suppliedDryBasisSupplied Dry BasisRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
expectedDryBasisExpected Dry BasisRequired. Finite number.
residualSigned supplied/calculated difference in the direction specified above.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Uses dry mass/wet mass as the denominator conversion; agreement does not verify analyte identity or assay quality.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the original label, analytical method and authoritative chemical definition before applying a conversion or comparing nutrient quantities.
