Ethogram State Event Class Label Tool

Label a caller-classified ethogram code as state, event or unknown without classifying observed behavior.

Description

Label an ethogram behavior as a recorded state, event or unknown kind.

Zoological records separate specimen identity, preparation, anatomical side, behavioral codes and the sources assigning those labels. A specimen name or status is a claim with provenance, while an observation share depends on a stated denominator. Preserving these conventions helps compare records without treating a transcription or visibility count as taxonomic identification or an animal-health assessment.

Label an ethogram behavior as a recorded state, event or unknown kind.

When to use this tool

Use Ethogram State Event Class Label when you already have behaviorCode, recordKind and need to label an ethogram behavior as a recorded state, event or unknown kind.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter behaviorCode, recordKind. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read label. Use the output convention below.

Require nonempty behaviorCode and recordKind state, event or unknown; format code [kind].1

recordKindRecord KindRequired. Text; one of "state", "event", "unknown"; maximum UTF-16 length 8192.

Limitations and assumptions

  • No behavior is observed or classified; the codebook determines the intended state/event distinction.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

For identity or type status, inspect the original specimen record and cited nomenclatural authority. For behavior or visibility, review the actual observation series and its codebook; this helper preserves one stated label or counting convention.
