Hyperconcentrated Flow Density Range Checker
Screen density-derived solid volume concentrations against a caller hyperconcentrated-flow band; existing mining tools infer pulp mass fraction, not this flow-regime volume policy, and gas-rich mixtures are unsupported.
Description
Mixture density can reveal sediment volume concentration when only water and denser grains are present.
Mixture density can reveal sediment volume concentration when only water and denser grains are present. A regime label depends on the supplied concentration band.

When to use Hyperconcentrated Flow Density Range Checker
Use this tool to screen density-derived solid volume concentrations against a caller hyperconcentrated-flow band; existing mining tools infer pulp mass fraction, not this flow-regime volume policy, and gas-rich mixtures are unsupported.
Gather the relevant observations and fitted model parameters. Use the stated units and time basis; keep paired observations aligned.
How to use Hyperconcentrated Flow Density Range Checker and understand its results
- Gather the relevant observations and fitted model parameters. Use the stated units and time basis; keep paired observations aligned.
- Enter measuredMixtureDensitiesKgPerM3, waterDensityKgPerM3, grainDensityKgPerM3, callerHyperconcentratedVolumeFractionBounds using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read inferredSolidVolumeFractions, withinCallerHyperconcentratedBandFlags. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| measuredMixtureDensitiesKgPerM3 | Measured mixture densities kg per m3 | list of number | Required |
| waterDensityKgPerM3 | Water density kg per m3 | number | Required |
| grainDensityKgPerM3 | Grain density kg per m3 | number | Required |
| callerHyperconcentratedVolumeFractionBounds | Caller hyperconcentrated volume fraction bounds | list of number | Required |
Use positive densities with grains denser than water and two ordered fraction bounds. Require each inferred fraction in [0,1]; flags include both band endpoints.1
solid volume fraction = (mixture density − water density)/(grain density − water density) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| inferredSolidVolumeFractions | Inferred solid volume fractions | list of number |
| withinCallerHyperconcentratedBandFlags | Within caller hyperconcentrated band flags | list of number |

} Limitations and assumptions
Gas-rich mixtures and universal flow-regime thresholds are excluded.
Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Lahar Volume Crater Lake Breach: Balance released crater-lake water, initial water loss and dry sediment grains into initial lahar volume; pores are not double counted and downstream entrainment/inundation are not predicted. For a complementary task, use Pumice Density Floating Checker: Model pore-water uptake at fixed pumice envelope volume and report a signed neutral-buoyancy fill fraction; values outside [0,1] identify unreachable thresholds, not an invented flotation guarantee.
