Effusion Rate Average Cubic KM Day

Infer observed interval/whole-span bulk effusion and vesicle-corrected DRE rate from matched surveys; no generic arithmetic average of interval rates or volume loss during emplacement is assumed.

Description

Repeated volume surveys estimate discharge from volume increments over time.

Repeated volume surveys estimate discharge from volume increments over time. Whole-span rates weight intervals by their duration.

Infer observed interval/whole-span bulk effusion and vesicle-corrected DRE rate from matched surveys; no generic arithmetic average of interval rates or volume loss during emplacement is assumed.

When to use Effusion Rate Average Cubic KM Day

Use this tool to infer observed interval/whole-span bulk effusion and vesicle-corrected DRE rate from matched surveys; no generic arithmetic average of interval rates or volume loss during emplacement is assumed.

Gather the relevant observations and fitted model parameters. Use the stated units and time basis; keep paired observations aligned.

How to use Effusion Rate Average Cubic KM Day and understand its results

  1. Gather the relevant observations and fitted model parameters. Use the stated units and time basis; keep paired observations aligned.
  2. Enter surveyTimesDays, cumulativeMappedBulkVolumesM3, intervalVesicleFractions using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read intervalBulkEffusionM3PerDay, meanBulkEffusionKm3PerDay, meanDreEffusionM3PerDay. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Align increasing survey times with nondecreasing cumulative bulk volumes and one vesicle fraction per interval. Return interval m³/day, whole-span km³/day and vesicle-corrected mean DRE m³/day.1

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths. Each sequence checked for increasing order must contain at least two strictly increasing values.

mean bulk rate = total mapped increment/time span; DRE increment = bulk increment × (1 − vesicle fraction)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Survey errors and emplacement loss are not corrected; the mean is not an unweighted mean of interval rates.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Lava Flow Volume Effusion Duration: Integrate piecewise dense-magma discharge into DRE and separately expanded emplaced bulk lava volume; unlike survey-rate inference, flow is a supplied forward boundary condition. For a complementary task, use Lava Front Advance Speed Basaltic: Invert a bulk volume budget to front advance with caller section shape and diverted/storage fraction; excludes cooling, changing morphology and topographic branching, not a lava arrival forecast.
