Salinity Rootzone Leaching Fraction Vineyard Calculator

Steady-state LR = ECw/(5 ECe - ECw) screening approximation for caller applicable salinity conditions, not universal vineyard leaching advice.

Description

Calculate a conditional salinity leaching fraction from irrigation and target soil EC.

A simplified salinity leaching relationship can be evaluated from irrigation-water EC and a chosen target soil EC. It is a conditional model result rather than a site-specific irrigation design.

When to use this tool

Calculate a conditional salinity leaching fraction from irrigation and target soil EC. Use it when the input measurements and conventions below match the operation you need.

  • Prepare irrigationEcDsM, targetSoilEcDsM, respecting the measurement basis and boundaries below.
  • Compare the worked example with your intended operation before reusing its result.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter every field in the input table using the stated units and exact supported selector spelling where applicable.
  2. Run the tool. Correct input errors before interpreting an output.
  3. Read the result fields below; use accompanying flags and the stated sign, boundary or model convention when interpreting a number.

Irrigation EC must be nonnegative and target soil EC positive. The fraction is ECw divided by (5 times ECe minus ECw), with a positive denominator required. Inputs implying a fraction above one are rejected.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The target and EC measurement conventions must already be applicable. Soil drainage, salinity distribution, rainfall, ion toxicity and crop response are not independently evaluated.
  • Every declared field is required and unexpected fields are rejected. Numeric inputs must be finite; input errors are distinct from a valid false result or an explicitly qualified output.
  • Extremely large inputs and nonfinite or excessively large outputs are rejected. List positions reported by the tool use zero-based indices unless stated otherwise.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Compare the result with actual block measurements, soil or crop observations and the declared management basis. Use a site-specific model when effects omitted here materially affect the decision. Compare the scope of the nearby tools below before substituting one.
