Machine Harvest Loss Percent
Audit independent preharvest/collected/ground/residual crop inventories, preserving signed unaccounted mismatch instead of forcing mass closure or calling every residual machine loss.
Description
Harvest accounting compares several independently measured crop inventories.
Harvest accounting compares several independently measured crop inventories. A closure mismatch can be positive or negative.
Audit independent preharvest/collected/ground/residual crop inventories, preserving signed unaccounted mismatch instead of forcing mass closure or calling every residual machine loss.
When to use Machine Harvest Loss Percent
Use this tool to audit independent preharvest/collected/ground/residual crop inventories, preserving signed unaccounted mismatch instead of forcing mass closure or calling every residual machine loss.
Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.
How to use Machine Harvest Loss Percent and understand its results
- Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.
- Enter preHarvestCropMassKg, collectedCropMassKg, measuredGroundLossMassKg, measuredResidualOnVineMassKg using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read observedCollectedCropPercent, measuredGroundPlusResidualLossPercent, signedUnaccountedCropMassKg. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| preHarvestCropMassKg | Pre harvest crop mass kg | number | Required |
| collectedCropMassKg | Collected crop mass kg | number | Required |
| measuredGroundLossMassKg | Measured ground loss mass kg | number | Required |
| measuredResidualOnVineMassKg | Measured residual on vine mass kg | number | Required |
Use positive preharvest mass and nonnegative remaining inventories. Return collected percent, measured ground-plus-residual percent and signed unaccounted kg; do not force percentages or closure into a fixed range.1
unaccounted mass = preharvest − collected − ground loss − residual on vine Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| observedCollectedCropPercent | Observed collected crop percent | number |
| measuredGroundPlusResidualLossPercent | Measured ground plus residual loss percent | number |
| signedUnaccountedCropMassKg | Signed unaccounted crop mass kg | number |

Residual crop is not automatically machine-caused loss, and measurement discrepancies remain visible.
Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Harvest Morning Dew Correction Weight: Correct delivered grapes using caller paired before/after **surface drying** samples; unlike internal wet/dry moisture conversion, model assumes no juice/berry dry-matter loss and dew representativeness remains caller responsibility. For a complementary task, use Crop Estimate Cluster Count Method: Expand equal-probability sampled vine cluster counts to block yield with caller mature-cluster mass and count-sampling error only; no weight/selection uncertainty, harvest guarantee or optimum crop load.
