Canopy Width Vigour Classification Tool

Audit physical canopy widths by represented row length against caller local/pooled width bands; width alone does not establish physiological vigor or treatment need.

Description

Canopy widths measured over unequal row lengths require length weighting.

Canopy widths measured over unequal row lengths require length weighting. Band codes represent a caller classification policy.

Audit physical canopy widths by represented row length against caller local/pooled width bands; width alone does not establish physiological vigor or treatment need.

When to use Canopy Width Vigour Classification Tool

Use this tool to audit physical canopy widths by represented row length against caller local/pooled width bands; width alone does not establish physiological vigor or treatment need.

Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.

How to use Canopy Width Vigour Classification Tool and understand its results

  1. Prepare vineyard measurements, dates or block records for the intended growing period. Keep weights, counts and weather observations in the stated units.
  2. Enter measuredCanopyWidthsM, representedRowLengthsM, callerWidthClassLowerEdgesM using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read lengthWeightedCanopyWidthM, localCallerWidthClassCodes, pooledCallerWidthClassCode. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
measuredCanopyWidthsMMeasured canopy widths mlist of numberRequired
representedRowLengthsMRepresented row lengths mlist of numberRequired
callerWidthClassLowerEdgesMCaller width class lower edges mlist of numberRequired

Align nonnegative widths with positive lengths. Use increasing lower band edges covering every local and pooled value, at most 128. Codes are zero-based; equality enters the band beginning at that edge.1

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

pooled width = Σ(width × row length)/Σ row length

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Width alone does not establish vigor or treatment need.

Numbers and computed results must be finite; overflow produces an error. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Shoot Density Per Meter Row: Normalize observed shoot inventories by actual row versus multiple-curtain exposure, retaining different denominators; no shoot density target or canopy quality inference. For a complementary task, use Bunch Compactness Index Classifier: Audit measured berry solid-volume/cluster-envelope packing proxy under caller compactness bands; no universal OIV score, overlap correction or rot susceptibility prediction.
