Print Edition Proof Suffix Tool

Format explicitly supplied numbered proof notation; this does not establish authenticity or edition size.

Description

Accept proofKind AP, EA, PP, or HC and positive safe-integer total and number with number no greater than total.

An artwork record can distinguish an edition, proof, accession, attribution, or display note. These labels preserve a stated catalog convention; they do not authenticate an object or establish ownership.

Accept proofKind AP, EA, PP, or HC and positive safe-integer total and number with number no greater than total.

When to use this tool

Use Print Edition Proof Suffix when you need to format a supplied art-record detail consistently while retaining its source and qualifiers.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter proofKind, number, total. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read label. Use the output convention below.

Accept proofKind AP, EA, PP, or HC and positive safe-integer total and number with number no greater than total. Format proofKind followed by number/total.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The label records a supplied edition convention; authenticity, proof status, and an artist's actual numbering policy are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Compare the resulting label with the collection catalog and the institution's documentation conventions.
