TCID50 to PFU Approximate Poisson Converter (0.69 factor)
Convert TCID50 units using ln(2), not an empirically universal PFU calibration; assumes an ideal single-hit Poisson endpoint assay.
Description
Convert TCID50 units using ln(2), not an empirically universal PFU calibration; assumes an ideal single-hit Poisson endpoint assay.
A single-hit Poisson model links a fifty-percent endpoint to a mean of ln(2) events. That theoretical relationship can produce a conditional TCID50-to-PFU quantity under explicit assumptions.
When to use this tool
Convert TCID50 units using ln(2), not an empirically universal PFU calibration; assumes an ideal single-hit Poisson endpoint assay.
- Prepare the supplied tcid50Units fields for this operation.
- Compare the complete example with the representation used by your own input before carrying the result into another step.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter tcid50Units. Use the exact text syntax, units and index conventions explained below.
- Run the tool. If input validation fails, correct the supplied fields before interpreting any result.
- Read result.conditionalPfu, result.assumption. Interpret false, null and empty lists using the distinctions below; they can be valid outputs.
Require nonnegative tcid50Units, multiply by Math.LN2 and return conditionalPfu with the ideal-single-hit-Poisson assumption.1
| Input field | Meaning and representation | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| tcid50Units | tcid50 units. | Finite number; zero or greater |
| Output field | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| result | Object containing the named outputs below. |
| result.conditionalPfu | The conditional pfu value under the stated formula or text convention. |
| result.assumption | The assumption value under the stated formula or text convention. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is not an empirical universal assay conversion. Cell system, endpoint definition, detection probability and preparation-specific calibration are not evaluated; it does not measure infectious titer.
- Every declared top-level field is required and unexpected fields are rejected. Numeric inputs must be finite; ordinary text fields are bounded to 8,192 UTF-16 code units, with tighter operation-specific limits where stated.
- Ordinary string lists have at most 128 entries of at most 128 code units each; numeric lists and matrices have separate bounded size checks. Nonfinite results and excessively large serialized outputs are rejected.
- Indexes are zero-based and spans have an exclusive end unless explicitly stated otherwise. A valid false, null or empty-list result is distinct from malformed input.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Keep physical-particle counts, infectious assay units and observed sample proportions distinct. Use the original calibration, product instructions or validated assay method for the specific context; simple conversions and reference notes do not establish infectivity or clinical interpretation.
