Lighting Photon Flux Per Area

Divide explicit photon flux by supplied illuminated area under a uniform-distribution assumption without estimating canopy interception.

Description

Express supplied photon flux per illuminated square metre.

Vertical-farm records distinguish nominal growing area from floor footprint, occupied cells from healthy seedlings, and supplied lighting power from photon flux. Energy accumulates power over time, while flux per area is an instantaneous spatial basis. Counts, runtime readings and water shares need consistent periods and references before they can describe a real facility.

Express supplied photon flux per illuminated square metre.

When to use this tool

Use Lighting Photon Flux Per Area when you already have photonFluxMicromolesPerSecond, illuminatedAreaSquareMeters and need to express supplied photon flux per illuminated square metre.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter photonFluxMicromolesPerSecond, illuminatedAreaSquareMeters. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read micromolesPerSquareMeterPerSecond. Use the output convention below.

Require photonFluxMicromolesPerSecond>=0 and illuminatedAreaSquareMeters>0; divide flux by area to return µmol/m²/s.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
photonFluxMicromolesPerSecondPhoton amount flux in µmol/s, not luminous flux in lumens.Required. Finite number; minimum 0.
illuminatedAreaSquareMetersPositive area in m² associated with the supplied photon flux.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
micromolesPerSquareMeterPerSecondMicromoles Per Square Meter Per SecondRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Assumes the supplied flux and area describe the same illuminated surface; this is not a spatial light map, daily light integral or crop-lighting recommendation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use measured fixture input and runtime logs for energy, a spatially sampled light map for illumination, and verified tray inventories for occupancy. Reconcile volumes and reference periods before extending one local share to a whole facility.
