Library Size Total Mapped Reads Summator
Sum supplied mapped-count entries; callers must prevent multi-assigned read double counting. No alignment or library-size normalization.
Description
Sum supplied mapped-count entries; callers must prevent multi-assigned read double counting.
Summing mapped feature counts gives a total for the supplied vector. The number of entries is a feature count, which differs from a count of distinct sequencing reads.
When to use this tool
Sum supplied mapped-count entries; callers must prevent multi-assigned read double counting.
- Prepare the supplied mappedCounts fields for this operation.
- Compare the complete example with the representation used by your own input before carrying the result into another step.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter mappedCounts. Use the exact text syntax, units and index conventions explained below.
- Run the tool. If input validation fails, correct the supplied fields before interpreting any result.
- Read result.totalMappedCounts, result.features. Interpret false, null and empty lists using the distinctions below; they can be valid outputs.
Validate each mappedCounts entry as a nonnegative bounded integer, sum them, and return totalMappedCounts plus the number of features.1
| Input field | Meaning and representation | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| mappedCounts | mapped counts. | List of finite numbers; bounded by the operation |
| Output field | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| result | Object containing the named outputs below. |
| result.totalMappedCounts | The total mapped counts value under the stated formula or text convention. |
| result.features | The features value under the stated formula or text convention. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Counts must already have the intended counting convention. Overlapping assignments, duplicate reads and unassigned reads are not detected; an empty vector sums to zero.
- Every declared top-level field is required and unexpected fields are rejected. Numeric inputs must be finite; ordinary text fields are bounded to 8,192 UTF-16 code units, with tighter operation-specific limits where stated.
- Ordinary string lists have at most 128 entries of at most 128 code units each; numeric lists and matrices have separate bounded size checks. Nonfinite results and excessively large serialized outputs are rejected.
- Indexes are zero-based and spans have an exclusive end unless explicitly stated otherwise. A valid false, null or empty-list result is distinct from malformed input.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a complete assay-analysis workflow for normalization, quality control and inference. Keep supplied measurements, fixed educational windows and caller-chosen thresholds distinct; these tools perform the documented calculation or retrieve a short reference note.
