Pit-to-Singer Balance Ratio
Calculate pit-to-singer RMS pressure ratio and relative decibel level.
Description
Pit-to-singer balance can be expressed as an RMS pressure ratio and relative decibels.
Pit-to-singer balance can be expressed as an RMS pressure ratio and relative decibels. Pressure uses 20 times the log ratio rather than the power-ratio factor of ten.1
Calculate pit-to-singer RMS pressure ratio and relative decibel level.
When to use Pit-to-Singer Balance Ratio
Use this tool to calculate pit-to-singer RMS pressure ratio and relative decibel level.
Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
How to use Pit-to-Singer Balance Ratio and understand its results
- Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
- Enter pitRmsPressurePascals, singerRmsPressurePascals using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read pressureRatio, levelDifferenceDecibels. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| pitRmsPressurePascals | Pit RMS sound pressure (Pa) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| singerRmsPressurePascals | Singer RMS sound pressure (Pa) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter strictly positive RMS pressures in pascals using comparable measurements. Return pit/singer ratio and signed relative level; equal pressure gives zero dB.
ratio=pitPressure/singerPressure; levelDifference=20 log10(ratio) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| pressureRatio | Pit-to-singer pressure ratio | number; minimum: 0 |
| levelDifferenceDecibels | Pit minus singer level (dB) | number |

Zero pressures are rejected. This does not measure sound, determine absolute SPL, assess intelligibility or include spatial/spectral differences.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
