Click-Track Drift
Measure click-track tempo and timing drift.
Description
A click-track tempo estimate divides counted beats by elapsed duration.
A click-track tempo estimate divides counted beats by elapsed duration. A timing-drift expression then compares that measured beat rate with the intended rate.1
Measure click-track tempo and timing drift.
When to use Click-Track Drift
Use this tool to measure click-track tempo and timing drift.
Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
How to use Click-Track Drift and understand its results
- Prepare production measurements or checklist records for one planning period. Confirm units, staffing assumptions and caller-selected criteria before running the calculation.
- Enter expectedTempoBpm, measuredBeatCount, measuredDurationSeconds, maximumTempoErrorBpm using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read measuredTempoBpm, tempoErrorBpm, driftSecondsPerMinute, withinTolerance. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| expectedTempoBpm | Expected tempo (bpm) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| measuredBeatCount | Measured beat count | integer; minimum: 1 | Required |
| measuredDurationSeconds | Measured duration (s) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| maximumTempoErrorBpm | Maximum tempo error (bpm) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter positive expected tempo/duration, positive integer beat count and nonnegative absolute tempo tolerance. Return measured tempo, measured-minus-expected BPM error, signed drift and inclusive absolute-error flag.
measuredBpm=60 beats/durationSeconds; driftSecondsPerMinute=60(expectedBpm/measuredBpm−1) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| measuredTempoBpm | Measured tempo (bpm) | number; minimum: 0 |
| tempoErrorBpm | Tempo error (bpm) | number |
| driftSecondsPerMinute | Timing drift per minute (s/min) | number |
| withinTolerance | Within supplied tolerance | boolean |

} Limitations and assumptions
The count is supplied as beats, not automatically inferred inter-beat intervals. No audio analysis, beat detection or time-varying tempo fit is performed.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
