Nexus Threshold Screen
Compare sales and transaction counts with caller-supplied nexus thresholds.
Description
An economic-nexus screen compares sales and transaction counts with supplied thresholds.
An economic-nexus screen compares sales and transaction counts with supplied thresholds. Some scenarios require either threshold; others require both.1
Compare sales and transaction counts with caller-supplied nexus thresholds.
When to use Nexus Threshold Screen
Use this tool to compare sales and transaction counts with caller-supplied nexus thresholds.
Choose the specific arithmetic or checklist scenario and establish its input amounts, dates, rates and criteria from the applicable records. Keep currencies, periods and jurisdictions consistent; review the tool-specific assumptions before interpreting the result.
How to use Nexus Threshold Screen and understand its results
- Choose the specific arithmetic or checklist scenario and establish its input amounts, dates, rates and criteria from the applicable records. Keep currencies, periods and jurisdictions consistent; review the tool-specific assumptions before interpreting the result.
- Enter annualSales, annualTransactions, salesThreshold, transactionThreshold, thresholdMode using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read meetsSalesThreshold, meetsTransactionThreshold, meetsConfiguredThreshold. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| annualSales | Annual in-jurisdiction sales (currency) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| annualTransactions | Annual in-jurisdiction transactions | integer; minimum: 0 | Required |
| salesThreshold | Sales threshold (currency) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| transactionThreshold | Transaction threshold | integer; minimum: 0 | Required |
| thresholdMode | Threshold mode | string; one of "either", "both" | Required |
Enter nonnegative sales, nonnegative integer transactions and thresholds, then select either or both. Return each inclusive threshold flag and the selected combination.
salesMet=sales≥salesThreshold; countMet=count≥countThreshold; result=OR or AND Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| meetsSalesThreshold | Meets sales threshold | boolean |
| meetsTransactionThreshold | Meets transaction threshold | boolean |
| meetsConfiguredThreshold | Meets configured threshold | boolean |

} Limitations and assumptions
Thresholds and combination rules are caller inputs. Geography, measurement period, taxable-sales definitions and legal nexus beyond economic thresholds are not determined.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Extremely large text inputs are rejected. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Sourcing Tax Comparison: Compare origin- and destination-sourced tax using caller-supplied rates. For a complementary task, use Marketplace Tax Split: Split marketplace sales and tax between facilitator and seller collection.
