Crypto Cost Basis Method HIFO Comparison Tool
Exact bounded crypto FIFO/HIFO lot allocation comparison, chronological tie-break; independently permitted specific identification/account basis external, no fractions beyond common unit scale. Caller independently establishes matching units, evidence, method edition and applicability; output is not compliance, diagnosis, work-safety approval, geological identity or validated hazard prediction.
Description
FIFO and HIFO allocate the same disposal across acquisition lots in different orders.
FIFO and HIFO allocate the same disposal across acquisition lots in different orders.1
Comparing exact lot usage and basis shows the resulting gain difference under independently permitted identification rules.
When to use Crypto Cost Basis Method HIFO Comparison Tool
Use this tool when you need to reproduce the stated calculation from measured records or independently selected model inputs. Establish jurisdiction, tax year, applicable authority, and eligible amounts or evidence before entering values. Minor-unit amounts use one currency; 12345 means 123.45 when that currency has 100 minor units per major unit. One basis point is 0.01 percentage points.
How to use Crypto Cost Basis Method HIFO Comparison Tool and understand its results
- Establish jurisdiction, tax year, applicable authority, and eligible amounts or evidence before entering values. Minor-unit amounts use one currency; 12345 means 123.45 when that currency has 100 minor units per major unit. One basis point is 0.01 percentage points.
- Enter lotUnitCounts, callerLotCostPerUnitMinor, disposalUnitCount, netDisposalProceedsMinor, following the field table and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read fifoUsedLotUnits, hifoUsedLotUnits, fifoBasisMinor, hifoBasisMinor, fifoGainMinor, hifoGainMinor. Use the output meanings below to interpret units, signs, flags, and any nested result fields.
- Correct reported input issues and run again. For a successful result, check the stated evidence coverage and assumptions before using it in your review.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| lotUnitCounts | Lot unit counts | list of number | Required |
| callerLotCostPerUnitMinor | Caller lot cost per unit minor | list of number | Required |
| disposalUnitCount | Disposal unit count | number | Required |
| netDisposalProceedsMinor | Net disposal proceeds minor | number | Required |
Supply at most 128 chronological lots with aligned positive integer unit counts up to one billion and nonnegative safe-integer cost per indivisible unit. Disposal units are integer zero to one billion and cannot exceed total stock; proceeds are nonnegative safe integers. FIFO uses original order. HIFO sorts descending unit cost with original order as tie-breaker. Consume oldest eligible position in each order, sum exact lot cost, and subtract from proceeds.
basis_method=Σ(usedUnits_i×unitCost_i); gain_method=proceeds−basis_method Symbols follow the input and output meanings and the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |

| fifoBasisMinor | Fifo basis minor | number |
| hifoBasisMinor | Hifo basis minor | number |
| fifoGainMinor | Fifo gain minor | number |
| hifoGainMinor | Hifo gain minor | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
Eligibility, rates, dates, definitions, and exceptions are independently supplied facts. The arithmetic is not a complete return calculation or a determination of tax liability.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types, and violated calculation rules are input issues. Numeric values must be finite; nonfinite results are rejected. Evidence arrays must be dense, with no missing cells. Numeric observation lists allow at most 10,000 entries, subject to any smaller bounds stated above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related review, use Wash Sale Rule Does Not Apply to Crypto Loophole Status Lookup: A crypto wash-sale reference needs the jurisdiction, asset classification, transaction, and applicable date. This lookup retains your supplied authority record and does not presume that the title’s non-applicability claim is correct. For a complementary step, use Tax Loss Harvest Offset Limit Calculator: Eligible capital losses can be allocated first against gains and then against an independently applicable ordinary-income cap. Tracking the residual prevents unused losses from disappearing from the calculation.
