Inclinometer Angle True Dip Corrector
Instrument zero-offset inclination subtraction only, not apparent dip/strike correction. Actual matched zero calibration externally established.
Description
An instrument zero offset contributes a signed bias to an indicated inclination.
An instrument zero offset contributes a signed bias to an indicated inclination.1
Subtracting the established offset corrects that component without changing the survey reference frame.
When to use Inclinometer Angle True Dip Corrector
Use this tool to obtain correctedInclinationDegrees from the supplied records using the stated calculation. Establish the survey or observation scope, reference frame, units and independently applicable calibration or qualified plan.
How to use Inclinometer Angle True Dip Corrector and understand its results
- Establish the survey or observation scope, reference frame, units and independently applicable calibration or qualified plan.
- Enter actualIndicatedInclinationDegrees, callerIndependentlyMeasuredInstrumentZeroOffsetDegrees, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read result.correctedInclinationDegrees. Use the units and sign conventions below, and review any unknown records separately.
- Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| actualIndicatedInclinationDegrees | Actual indicated inclination degrees | number | Required |
| callerIndependentlyMeasuredInstrumentZeroOffsetDegrees | Caller independently measured instrument zero offset degrees | number | Required |
Subtract the independently measured zero offset from the finite indicated inclination. Both indicated and corrected inclination must lie in [−90,90] degrees. The offset itself has no separate angular bound; no apparent-to-true geological dip transformation is performed.
correctedDegrees=indicatedDegrees−zeroOffsetDegrees Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Qualified observed calculation or explicit reference | object |
| result.correctedInclinationDegrees | Corrected Inclination Degrees | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
The actual observation coverage, calibration and qualified plan determine applicability. A numerical result does not establish survey accuracy, route suitability, atmosphere conditions or equipment adequacy beyond the declared comparison.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related step, use Tape Distance Temperature Correction Calculator: A calibrated measuring tape expands or contracts with its temperature difference from calibration. For a complementary comparison, use Scale Bar Ratio Map Print Checker (1:500 etc.): A printed scale bar relates measured print length to represented ground distance.
