Granovetter Threshold Distribution Checker
Conditional synchronous Granovetter count-threshold cascade with explicit distinct participants and calibrated thresholds. All new participation uses prior-round count; no behavior prediction, coercion or universal threshold distribution.
Description
A participation-threshold model updates people according to a declared active-population count.
A participation-threshold model updates people according to a declared active-population count.1
Synchronous activation rounds are a model convention rather than a measured prediction of protest participation.
When to use Granovetter Threshold Distribution Checker
Use this tool to obtain conditionalParticipantIds, newParticipantIdsByRound, newParticipantRoundIndices from the supplied records using the stated calculation. Establish the population, period, variable definitions, sample coverage and independently applicable instrument or calibration.
How to use Granovetter Threshold Distribution Checker and understand its results
- Establish the population, period, variable definitions, sample coverage and independently applicable instrument or calibration.
- Enter callerParticipantIds, independentlyEstablishedParticipationThresholds, initialParticipantIds, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read result.conditionalParticipantIds, result.newParticipantIdsByRound, result.newParticipantRoundIndices. Use the units and sign conventions below, and review any unknown records separately.
- Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| callerParticipantIds | Caller participant ids | list of string | Required |
| independentlyEstablishedParticipationThresholds | Independently established participation thresholds | list of number | Required |
| initialParticipantIds | Initial participant ids | list of string | Required |
Supply nonempty unique nonblank participant IDs with aligned integer thresholds from zero through participant count. Initial IDs may be empty but must be distinct members of that inventory. In each synchronous round select every inactive participant whose threshold is no greater than the active count at the start of the round, then activate them together. Stop at a fixed point within at most participant-count rounds. Return all active IDs in inventory order and newly activated IDs with one-based round numbers; initial participants are omitted from new lists.
newRound_r={inactive_i:threshold_i≤activeCountAtRoundStart}; active_next=active∪newRound_r Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Calculated observation or qualified reference | object |
| result.conditionalParticipantIds | All active participant identifiers at the model fixed point, in inventory order. | list |
| result.newParticipantIdsByRound | Newly activated participants ordered by round and then inventory order. | list |
| result.newParticipantRoundIndices | One-based activation rounds aligned with newParticipantIdsByRound; initial participants omitted. | list |

} Limitations and assumptions
Population definitions, survey design, calibration and observation coverage are independently established. A result describes the supplied record or conditional model without demonstrating causation, validating an instrument or supplying representative population evidence.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries, subject to the narrower lengths and code rules above. String lists allow at most 128 entries of at most 128 UTF-16 units each; blank and duplicate rules are stated above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.
Alternative or Complementary methods

For a complementary comparison, use Contentious Action Frequency Index Calculator: Contentious-action frequency needs an adopted coding rubric and observation period.
