Multiset Item Count Delta Tool

Describe the multiplicity change of one multiset item, separating inserted and removed occurrence counts.

Description

Subtract beforeCount from afterCount for delta, returning positive delta as insertedCount and positive negative-delta magnitude as removedCount.

A set contains distinct values, so duplicate input items do not contribute additional members. Ordered output is a serialization convention; membership, equality, and the chosen universe determine the underlying set result.

Subtract beforeCount from afterCount for delta, returning positive delta as insertedCount and positive negative-delta magnitude as removedCount.

When to use this tool

Use Multiset Item Count Delta when you need a deterministic operation on explicitly supplied sets or a finite membership representation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter beforeCount, afterCount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read delta, insertedCount, removedCount. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Counts are nonnegative safe integers; equal totals cannot reveal simultaneous insertions and removals or item identity changes.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Specify the universe and equality convention before combining this result with other set operations.
