Scripture Citation Verse Range

Build an explicit inclusive verse-range citation without resolving a canon, edition, or verse text.

Description

Format an inclusive supplied verse range and count its verse numbers.

Religious-source records depend on the work, edition, translation, calendar tradition and locator system. Verse numbers and hymn-meter counts are supplied annotations; a shared label need not imply identical text or observance. Evening starts, transfer rules and public admission windows require their stated source rather than an assumed universal calendar or authority.

Format an inclusive supplied verse range and count its verse numbers.

When to use this tool

Use Scripture Citation Verse Range when you already have workId, chapterText, firstVerse, lastVerse and need to format an inclusive supplied verse range and count its verse numbers.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter workId, chapterText, firstVerse, lastVerse. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read verseCount, citationToken. Use the output convention below.

Require nonempty workId/chapterText and safe whole 1<=firstVerse<=lastVerse. Return last-first+1 and JSON [work,chapter,first,last].1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The work and verse numbering are supplied; textual existence, translation, canon and citation validity are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the specific work, edition, calendar authority or rights record for a verified citation or observance. Use the source text and its prosodic convention for actual syllable analysis; supplied counts and locators can organize that review.
