Random Unit Vector Set Generator
Generate normalized nonzero vectors from independent uniform cube samples and report the nonuniform sampling convention.
Description
Generate unit-length vectors by normalizing uniform cube samples and report the nonuniform direction convention.
A unit vector has Euclidean length one and represents a direction without a magnitude scale. Dividing a nonzero vector by its Euclidean norm preserves its direction while setting that length.1
This generator samples each raw coordinate from [−1, 1), then normalizes the vector. Although every output is unit length to floating-point precision, the resulting directions are not uniform over the sphere. The output samplingConvention states that distinction explicitly.
When to use Random Unit Vector Set Generator
Use it for normalization demonstrations or bounded direction fixtures when cube-normalized sampling is suitable for the exercise.
How to use Random Unit Vector Set Generator and understand its results
- Enter vectorCount as an integer from 1 through 128 and dimensions as an integer from 2 through 16.
- Run the generator and read vectors as one vector per row.
- Retain samplingConvention when using the vectors in a simulation; check whether the application actually requires uniform spherical directions or orthogonal vectors.
raw_j = −1 + 2 × randomDraw_j; vector = raw / sqrt(Σ raw_j²) A fresh draw is consumed for every component of each vector.
If all raw components are exactly zero, the implementation sets the first to one before calling the vector-normalization tool. This avoids normalizing a zero vector and returns the first coordinate direction in that case.

} Draw 0.5 for every coordinate invokes the zero-vector fallback [1, 0, …]. Draw zero is allowed; draw one and nonfinite draws are rejected. Out-of-range or noninteger counts and dimensions fail.
Limitations and assumptions
The default source is Math.random; no seed input or cryptographic entropy guarantee is provided. Repeated runs may select the same result, and the distribution depends on the random source.
Outputs are not guaranteed unique, orthogonal, or uniformly distributed over the sphere. No angular distribution correction, seed field, or target direction is provided.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Normalize an explicit vector when you want a specified direction. Check magnitudes or dot products when studying unit length and pairwise alignment.
