Random Chinese Character Generator

Generate a random Chinese character from a curated common, Simplified, or Traditional set.

Description

Random Chinese Character Generator selects one of 145 outputs from its implemented Chinese Character repertoire and shows every possible result below.

Generate a random Chinese character from a curated common, Simplified, or Traditional set. The generator samples from the exact 145-entry repertoire shown on this page, so you can inspect every possible result before using it for practice, testing, or a prompt.1

When random Chinese Character prompts are useful

  • Create one-at-a-time Chinese Character recognition or recall prompts without manually choosing the next character.
  • Exercise font fallback, text shaping, storage, copying, and rendering with values from the implemented writing-system repertoire.
  • Use the complete grid as a coverage checklist when every available output must be reviewed deliberately.

How the Chinese Character repertoire is sampled

The tool's “all” option concatenates 148 category entries into 145 unique outputs. Characters repeated across categories occupy more than one sampling position and are therefore more likely than characters appearing once. “Run again” performs another independent draw. The reference grid is sorted alphabetically for ASCII labels and by Unicode code point for characters; sorting changes only the presentation, not the generator's sampling set.

Limitations of the Chinese Character generator

This is a curated 145-character teaching set with overlapping common, Simplified, and Traditional categories. It is not a frequency dictionary or a complete inventory of Chinese characters.

A random character does not teach frequency, pronunciation, stroke order, word formation, historical development, or meaning in context. Browser randomness is suitable for ordinary prompts and interface testing, not cryptographic selection, lotteries, or auditable sampling.

Alternative or Complementary ways to work with Chinese Character

Work through the grid in order when complete coverage matters, or use the cited chart or standard when you need normative names, ordering, annotations, and usage rules. Random prompts are best used after the relevant symbols and conventions have been introduced explicitly.
