Description

Orient a supplied bounded research item without producing a validated psychiatric score.

Research questionnaires and interview records distinguish answered, declined, omitted, unpresented, and inapplicable items. Timing and support annotations also affect their denominators. A completeness measure or scale transformation describes those records without establishing an instrument score or a mental-health assessment.

Orient a supplied bounded research item without producing a validated psychiatric score.

When to use this tool

Use Research Item Polarity Midpoint when you need the particular completeness, timing, polarity, or bookkeeping term for supplied research and interview records.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter score, lower, upper, reversed. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read midpoint, orientedScore. Use the output convention below.

Return midpoint=lower/2+upper/2 and orientedScore=lower+(upper-score) when reversed, otherwise score. Require ordered bounds and a score inside them.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The midpoint is arithmetic rather than an inferred neutral response. Polarity is supplied, and this transformation does not validate an instrument, combine items, or assess a mental-health condition.
  • The field tables state structural bounds; the mechanics also specify cross-field constraints. Malformed inputs and unsupported domains cause errors. A successful false flag, empty branch value, or zero placeholder has the meaning stated above and is distinct from an input error.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the relevant validated instrument and its documented missing-response and scoring procedures when the task requires an assessment. Verify research annotations and timing before combining record terms.
