Mixture Single Component Shortfall Tool

Separate the nonnegative shortfall and surplus for one required mixture component mass.

Description

For nonnegative required and available component masses, return positive required-minus-available as shortfall and the reverse excess as surplus.

Mixture proportions compare component amounts on a common basis, such as mass, volume, or count. Combining incompatible bases can give a numeric result without a meaningful mixture interpretation.

For nonnegative required and available component masses, return positive required-minus-available as shortfall and the reverse excess as surplus.

When to use this tool

Use Mixture Single Component Shortfall when you need a supplied mixture or spike component on an explicit common basis.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter requiredComponentMass, availableComponentMass. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read shortfallMass, surplusMass. Use the output convention below.

For nonnegative required and available component masses, return positive required-minus-available as shortfall and the reverse excess as surplus.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is one component balance without formulation, purity, reaction, or safety assessment.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the full balance, component units, and any density or concentration conversions separately.
