Thinning Light Test Pass-Fail Checker

Compare independently measured transmitted-light observations with matched caller reference bands; not a destructive test. Missing observations remain explicit. Caller independently verifies observations, reference edition, units and applicability; not a grading-service certificate, authentication, conservation treatment, actual market price or legal/insurance entitlement.

Description

A thin area may be recorded through a transmission observation interpreted against a matched comparison band.

A thin area may be recorded through a transmission observation interpreted against a matched comparison band.1

This checker evaluates supplied measurements and known flags, keeping missing assessments separate from measured deviations.

When to use Thinning Light Test Pass-Fail Checker

Use this tool when you need to review known observations against explicit inclusive bands. Prepare independently verified observations, reference edition/context, and matching units or currency basis.

How to use Thinning Light Test Pass-Fail Checker and understand its results

  1. Prepare independently verified observations, reference edition/context, and matching units or currency basis.
  2. Enter observedTransmission, callerTransmissionLower, callerTransmissionUpper, knownTransmissionFlags, following the field table and calculation rules below, then run the tool.
  3. Read signedKnownMargins, knownReviewIndices, unknownIndices. For result objects, inspect the nested output fields below, including any missing evidence or selected indices.
  4. Correct any input issues and run again. Before using a successful result, review its units, signs, evidence coverage, and stated model or reference assumptions.
Input fieldMeaningValue typeRequirement
observedTransmissionObserved transmissionlist of numberRequired
callerTransmissionLowerCaller transmission lowerlist of numberRequired
callerTransmissionUpperCaller transmission upperlist of numberRequired
knownTransmissionFlagsKnown transmission flags; binary 1 means assessed and 0 means unknown.list of numberRequired

Enter nonempty aligned observed values, caller lower/upper bounds, and binary known flags. Require lower≤upper for every row, even an unknown one. For a known value return min(value−lower, upper−value): positive inside, zero on a boundary, and negative outside. Only known values strictly outside the inclusive band enter knownReviewIndices. Unknown rows receive a zero placeholder and their separate unknownIndices, so an unknown zero margin is not passing evidence.

margin_i=known_i?min(observed_i−lower_i,upper_i−observed_i):0

Read these symbols with the field meanings and branch or reference rules above.

Output fieldMeaningValue type
signedKnownMarginsMinimum signed distance to the two inclusive bounds for known observations; zero placeholder for unknown observations.list of number
knownReviewIndicesZero-based input positions that are known and strictly outside the inclusive reference band.list of number
unknownIndicesZero-based input positions without a known observation; inspect before interpreting zero placeholders.list of number

Limitations and assumptions

The observation method, units, and appropriate bounds come from the supplied records. Unknown observations remain unassessed, and numeric band agreement does not authenticate an item or establish a certified grade.

Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types, and violated calculation rules return input issues. Numeric values must be finite; nonfinite numeric outputs are rejected. Arrays must be dense, with no missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries, subject to smaller tool-specific bounds above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

For a related task, use Sound Stamp Binary Quality Gate Checker: A sound-stamp assessment depends on which faults were actually inspected. This gate distinguishes an observed fault, a fully assessed absence of the listed faults, and an incomplete assessment. For a complementary step, use Paper Thickness micrometre Range Class Rater: Paper thickness can be interpreted under an issue-specific or reference-specific scale. This rater interpolates a supplied thickness classification curve without assuming universal thin, medium, and thick boundaries.
