Realized versus Estimate Hammer Variance Percent Calculator
Compare same-currency hammer and estimate, not hammer with all-in price. Caller independently verifies observations, reference edition, units and applicability; not a grading-service certificate, authentication, conservation treatment, actual market price or legal/insurance entitlement.
Description
A hammer-price variance compares an auction result with a stated estimate on the same currency basis.
A hammer-price variance compares an auction result with a stated estimate on the same currency basis.1
This calculator returns both the signed minor-unit difference and its percentage of the estimate.
When to use Realized versus Estimate Hammer Variance Percent Calculator
Use this tool when you need to summarize the supplied collecting records or matched observations. Prepare independently verified observations, reference edition/context, and matching units or currency basis.
How to use Realized versus Estimate Hammer Variance Percent Calculator and understand its results
- Prepare independently verified observations, reference edition/context, and matching units or currency basis.
- Enter realizedHammerMinor, estimateMinor, following the field table and calculation rules below, then run the tool.
- Read signedVarianceMinor, signedVariancePercent. For result objects, inspect the nested output fields below, including any missing evidence or selected indices.
- Correct any input issues and run again. Before using a successful result, review its units, signs, evidence coverage, and stated model or reference assumptions.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| realizedHammerMinor | Realized hammer minor; integer minor units in the explicit currency basis. | number | Required |
| estimateMinor | Estimate minor; integer minor units in the explicit currency basis. | number | Required |
Require nonnegative safe-integer realized and estimate amounts, with estimate strictly positive. Subtract estimate from realized with checked signed arithmetic and divide the difference by estimate for percentage. Fees and buyer’s premium are not automatically included.
varianceMinor=realized−estimate; variancePercent=100×varianceMinor/estimate Read these symbols with the field meanings and branch or reference rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| signedVarianceMinor | Signed variance minor; integer minor units in the explicit currency basis. | number |
| signedVariancePercent | Signed variance percent | number |
Where monetary amounts are used, keep one explicit currency and minor-unit basis; one basis point is 0.01 percent. Monetary integers and exact products must remain in JavaScript’s safe-integer range. Rational rounding uses nearest minor unit with half ties away from zero, rather than binary floating-point rounding. An input called a reference amount does not fetch or establish an actual price.

Observations, reference edition, and applicability are independently supplied. Arithmetic and reference summaries do not provide authentication, a certified grade, or an actual market price.
Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types, and violated calculation rules return input issues. Numeric values must be finite; nonfinite numeric outputs are rejected.
Alternative or Complementary methods
For a related task, use Auction Seller Commission Net Proceeds Calculator: A seller’s net proceeds depend on hammer price, commission, and fixed charges. This calculator uses explicit minor-unit amounts and a supplied commission rate, allowing charges to exceed the price. For a complementary step, use Price Realized Index Change Year-over-Year Calculator: A price index can summarize relative change between two matched periods. This calculator reports the signed percentage change between supplied positive index values, without updating prices or adjusting individual items.
