Description
Three-canopy inclusion-exclusion from supplied pair and triple overlaps.
Garden and resource-design calculations combine measured lengths, areas, water volumes, material fractions, travel, and evidence records. A useful budget needs consistent units and clear overlap, exclusion, and denominator rules. Supplied geometry and efficiencies describe a model rather than verified site performance.
Three-canopy inclusion-exclusion from supplied pair and triple overlaps.
When to use this tool
Use Guild Plant Canopy Overlap Budget when you have supplied site dimensions or resource records and need the stated geometry, budget, or coverage measure.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter areas, pairOverlaps, tripleOverlap, plotArea. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read unionArea, remainingArea. Use the output convention below.
Require three nonnegative canopy areas and three pair overlaps ordered (0,1),(0,2),(1,2), plus a nonnegative tripleOverlap no greater than any pair. Validate pair bounds and each area's overlap balance; return unionArea=sum(areas)-sum(pairOverlaps)+tripleOverlap and remainingArea=plotArea-unionArea.1

| plotArea | Plot Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |

} Limitations and assumptions
- All terms need one area unit. The supplied overlaps must satisfy local set-area constraints, but geometry is not reconstructed and unionArea may exceed plotArea, producing a negative remainder.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified site measurements and suitable physical or resource models for a complete design. Check units, overlap, losses, capacity, and whether an accounting share represents the intended quantity.
