Cue Smpte Frame Duration Tool

Convert an interval of absolute frame counts to seconds using an explicit rational frame rate. Inputs are frame indices rather than drop-frame timecode labels.

Description

Subtract indices for durationFrames and multiply by denominator/numerator for seconds.

Performance timing can use clock labels, durations, cues, or frame counts. These are different coordinate systems, and a local time label alone does not determine a timezone-aware instant.

Subtract indices for durationFrames and multiply by denominator/numerator for seconds.

When to use this tool

Use Cue Smpte Frame Duration when you need one cue, duration, or frame-based component under the stated time convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter startFrame, endFrame, frameRateNumerator, frameRateDenominator. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read durationFrames, seconds. Use the output convention below.

Require ordered nonnegative frame indices and positive integer frame-rate numerator and denominator. Subtract indices for durationFrames and multiply by denominator/numerator for seconds.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • These are absolute frame indices, not parsed SMPTE timecode labels; drop-frame numbering, inclusive end frames, and media synchronization are not inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the complete running order and the actual playback or clock system before coordinating an event.
