Lesson Study Cycle
Schedule a lesson-study plan, teaching, observation, reflection, and revision cycle.
Description
Lesson-study planning allocates separate periods to planning, teaching, observing, reflection and revision.
Lesson-study planning allocates separate periods to planning, teaching, observing, reflection and revision. Sequential phase starts expose the total cycle span.1
Schedule a lesson-study plan, teaching, observation, reflection, and revision cycle.
When to use Lesson Study Cycle
Use this tool to schedule a lesson-study plan, teaching, observation, reflection, and revision cycle.
Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
How to use Lesson Study Cycle and understand its results
- Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
- Enter cycleStartDay, planDays, teachDays, observeDays, reflectDays, reviseDays using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read phaseNames, phaseStartDays, cycleEndDay. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| cycleStartDay | Cycle start day | number | Required |
| planDays | Plan days | number | Required |
| teachDays | Teach days | number | Required |
| observeDays | Observe days | number | Required |
| reflectDays | Reflect days | number | Required |
| reviseDays | Revise days | number | Required |
Enter safe-integer start day and positive safe-integer durations. Return the five names, aligned cumulative starts and end day. The start day may be negative despite the generic error text referring to positive days.
phaseStart_i=startDay+ΣpriorDurations; end=startDay+ΣallDurations Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| phaseNames | Phase names | list of string |
| phaseStartDays | Phase start days | list of number |
| cycleEndDay | Cycle end day | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
No holiday calendar or overlap is modeled. Observation is a distinct scheduled phase, and the tool does not evaluate lesson-study practice.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Microteaching Feedback Timeline: Schedule a microteaching lesson, observation, feedback, and revision cycle. For a complementary task, use Spiral Review Intervals: Map successive curriculum revisits from caller-chosen spacing intervals.
