Slide Label Source Gap Tool

Calculate slide label source gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Count exact source mismatches, exact empty source labels, and matched rows.

Laboratory records distinguish specimen identity, sampling coverage, retained quantities, processing times, image scale, and measurement uncertainty. Areas, volumes, counts, and source-support flags measure different aspects of a record. A local calculation does not identify tissue or establish diagnostic adequacy.

Count exact source mismatches, exact empty source labels, and matched rows.

When to use this tool

Use Slide Label Source Gap when you need this specimen-record, sampling, processing-time, dimensional, or uncertainty calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter slideIds, labelSources, expectedSources. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read mismatches, missingSourceLabels, matched. Use the output convention below.

Require unique slideIds aligned with labelSources and nonempty expectedSources. Count exact source mismatches, exact empty source labels, and matched rows.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • A missing source label also counts as a mismatch because expected sources must be nonempty. Whitespace-only labels count as present, and the check does not verify slide identity, patient linkage, or source authenticity.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use validated laboratory procedures, traceable measurements, and authenticated specimen records for a complete assessment. Check the relevant sampling and processing assumptions before interpreting a local quantity.
