Description
Unescape one restricted ASCII MIME quoted-string parameter, honoring quoted-pair escapes and rejecting raw quotes, controls and line folding.
Media-type and MIME parameter text can include quoted strings, structured suffixes, charsets, language tags, and percent-encoded values. Splitting the syntax is separate from decoding its encoding or verifying a registered type. A local token parser may implement a deliberately limited character grammar.

When to use this tool
Use Parsing: Mime Quoted Parameter Unescape when you need the stated media/MIME parameter split, quote decoding, or suffix extraction.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter token. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.
Accept one double-quoted token containing the specified printable ASCII characters or a backslash followed by printable ASCII. Remove the outer quotes and unescape each backslash pair into unescaped inside result.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| token | Complete literal token in the grammar stated above. | Required. Text. Implementation limit: 8192 Unicode code points and 16384 UTF-16 code units. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| result | Object containing the calculated result members described below. | Required. Object. |
| result.unescaped | Unescaped | Calculated result member: string. |
{
"input": {
"token": "\"a\\\"b\""
},
"output": {
"result": {
"unescaped": "a\"b"
}
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- Tabs, non-ASCII characters, and line breaks are outside this restricted grammar. It does not parse a complete MIME parameter, decode an extended charset value, or validate a media type.
- Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a complete header parser and explicit charset/percent decoding for an entire media parameter. Consult the relevant registration and grammar when semantic validity matters.
