Attributable DALY Burden
Apply a supplied attributable fraction to precomputed years lost and years lived with disability.
Description
Disability-adjusted life years combine years of life lost with years lived with disability.
Disability-adjusted life years combine years of life lost with years lived with disability. Multiplying the total by an attributable fraction allocates a supplied share of that burden.
The tool returns totalDalys (total dalys); attributableDalys (attributable dalys). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.
When to use Attributable DALY Burden
Use Attributable DALY Burden when you already have yearsLifeLost, yearsLivedDisability, parasiteAttributableFraction and want totalDalys, attributableDalys. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.
How to use Attributable DALY Burden and understand its results
- Enter yearsLifeLost, yearsLivedDisability, parasiteAttributableFraction using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
- Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
- Read totalDalys, attributableDalys. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
- Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type and bounds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| yearsLifeLost | Years life lost | number | Required |
| yearsLivedDisability | Years lived disability | number | Required |
| parasiteAttributableFraction | Parasite attributable fraction | number | Required |
Accept nonnegative YLL and YLD with an attributable fraction between zero and one, then sum and multiply.
DALYs = YLL + YLD; attributable DALYs = DALYs × attributableFraction The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

} Limitations and assumptions
Life expectancy, disability weights and causal attribution are not estimated. All burden inputs must use a compatible population and period.
Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.
