Roman Moneyer Legend Parser

Match normalized Roman Republican legend tokens against a caller-supplied abbreviation dictionary; it does not identify a moneyer from unconfigured initials.

Description

Republican legend parsing uses an explicitly supplied abbreviation dictionary.

Republican legend parsing uses an explicitly supplied abbreviation dictionary. Matching tokens is separate from resolving the identity behind ambiguous initials.1

Match normalized Roman Republican legend tokens against a caller-supplied abbreviation dictionary; it does not identify a moneyer from unconfigured initials.

When to use Roman Moneyer Legend Parser

Use this tool to match normalized Roman Republican legend tokens against a caller-supplied abbreviation dictionary; it does not identify a moneyer from unconfigured initials.

Prepare documented records or observations for the specific coin or issue context. Enter the required labels, reference table or evidence flags and retain the supporting catalog and examination notes for interpretation.

How to use Roman Moneyer Legend Parser and understand its results

  1. Prepare documented records or observations for the specific coin or issue context. Enter the required labels, reference table or evidence flags and retain the supporting catalog and examination notes for interpretation.
  2. Enter abbreviations, expansions, legend using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read matchedExpansions, unmatchedTokens. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement

expansionsCaller expansionslist of stringRequired

Enter nonempty aligned abbreviation/expansion lists and a legend. Trim/uppercase abbreviation keys, reject blank keys/expansions and let later duplicate keys replace earlier values. Split uppercase legend into A–Z runs; require at least one. Return matched expansions and unmatched tokens in encounter order.

tokens=uppercase Latin-letter runs; expansions=dictionary[token] when present

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Expansion text is preserved as supplied. Multi-token keys cannot match a single token; punctuation, digits and non-Latin letters are not retained. No moneyer identification is inferred.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Extremely large text inputs are rejected. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Imperial Legend Abbreviation Decoder: Decode a narrow set of common Roman imperial legend abbreviations while preserving unknown tokens for catalogue-level interpretation. For a complementary task, use Divus Julius Legend Reference: Return the Roman historical context and attribution cautions for DIVVS IVLIVS legends.
