Description
Extract an exact base-ten digit and unsigned place-value contribution from a signed integer, counting places from zero at units.
A positional representation depends on its radix, digit range, sign convention, and treatment of leading zeros. Ordinary bases use digits from zero through radix minus one, while negative and bijective bases have different conversion rules. A single carry, borrow, or denominator step is distinct from formatting a complete number.
Extract an exact base-ten digit and unsigned place-value contribution from a signed integer, counting places from zero at units.
When to use this tool
Use Number: Integer Digit Place Value when you need this digit, carry, borrow, sign, width, or denominator component for an explicit radix convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter integer, place. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.
Parse signed integer text, take its absolute decimal digits, and read the zero-based place from the right for place in 0..127. Return digit, exact nonnegative decimal placeValue=digit*10^place, and negative based on the integer sign inside result.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| integer | Safe integer number or exact signed decimal-integer text as declared below. | Required. Text. Integer syntax: optional + or - and 1-128 decimal digits; leading zeros accepted. Apply the sign restriction above. Implementation limit: 8192 Unicode code points and 16384 UTF-16 code units. |
| place | Zero-based decimal place from the right, within 0..127. | Required. Safe integer. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| result | Object containing the calculated result members described below. | Required. Object. |
| result.digit | Numeric digit under the stated radix convention. | Calculated result member: number. |
| result.placeValue | Place Value | Calculated result member: string. |
| result.negative | Negative | Calculated result member: boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Places beyond the magnitude length return zero. Leading zeros are removed by integer parsing, place value excludes sign, and nondecimal radix positions or an original fixed-width representation are not preserved.
- Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Choose the full conversion or formatting workflow for the intended representation. Keep radix, digit alphabet, leading-zero width, signed-zero handling, and terminating/repeating-fraction assumptions explicit.
