Log Ratio Reference Component Check Tool

Compute a natural log-ratio to one positive reference component, using separate logarithms to avoid quotient overflow.

Description

Require positive component and reference and return ln(component) - ln(reference).

Logarithms turn positive ratios into additive coordinates. An event log-likelihood uses the natural logarithm of the probability of the observed outcome; its sign and interpretation differ from negative log loss.

Require positive component and reference and return ln(component) - ln(reference).

When to use this tool

Use Log Ratio Reference Component Check when you need one natural-log probability or positive-ratio component with explicit endpoint handling.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter component, reference. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read logRatio. Use the output convention below.

Require positive component and reference and return ln(component) - ln(reference).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
componentComponentRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
referenceSupplied reference in the documented record convention.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Values must share a quantity basis; this is a natural-log ratio, not a complete compositional transform, probability check, or causal comparison.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Document the event model, reference quantity, logarithm base, and aggregation rule when interpreting the complete result.
