Description
Clamp value into that interval, normalize to (clamped-min)/(max-min), and flag clipped only for strict original outliers.
Weights express relative contributions. Dividing by their total creates weights that sum to one when the total is positive, but it does not establish that the original weighting scheme is suitable for the decision.
Clamp value into that interval, normalize to (clamped-min)/(max-min), and flag clipped only for strict original outliers.
When to use this tool
Use Clipped Minmax Scalar when you need to normalize or inspect a supplied collection of nonnegative weights.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter value, minimum, maximum. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read normalized, clipped. Inspect clipped before interpreting the associated values.
Require minimum < maximum. Clamp value into that interval, normalize to (clamped-min)/(max-min), and flag clipped only for strict original outliers.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| value | Numeric value on the basis stated in the calculation above. | Required. Finite number. |
| minimum | Minimum | Required. Finite number. |
| maximum | Maximum | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| normalized | Result under the specific normalization rule above. | Required. Finite number. |
| clipped | Clipped | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This uses supplied limits without fitting a data range; endpoint equality is not marked clipped and numerical precision still applies.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Document how the weights were chosen and test the sensitivity of the complete weighted result.
