NPI Total Calculator

NPI12domain frequency×severity aggregation, maximum144; domains independently assessed, absent0paired with0, presentfrequency1–4/severity1–3. Unknown bounds retained; no caregiver-distress inclusion, NPI-Qsubstitution or diagnosis.

Description

The NPI combines independently coded domain frequency and severity findings.

The NPI combines independently coded domain frequency and severity findings.1

A known-domain total remains distinct from unresolved domain evidence.

When to use NPI Total Calculator

Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the assessment or recording protocol, units, instrument version and independently applicable reference or calibration.

How to use NPI Total Calculator and understand its results

  1. Establish the assessment or recording protocol, units, instrument version and independently applicable reference or calibration.
  2. Enter independentlyCodedDomainFrequencies, independentlyCodedDomainSeverities, domainKnownFlags, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
  3. Read result.knownNpiTotal, result.minimumPossibleTotal, result.maximumPossibleTotal, result.unknownDomainIndices. Use the units and sign conventions below. Review unresolved records and any possible bounds separately from known results.
  4. Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
Input fieldMeaningValue typeRequirement
independentlyCodedDomainFrequenciesIndependently coded domain frequencieslist of numberRequired
independentlyCodedDomainSeveritiesIndependently coded domain severitieslist of numberRequired
domainKnownFlagsDomain known flags; binary 1 means the matched observation is known, 0 means unknownlist of numberRequired

Require exactly 12 aligned frequency/severity domain codes and binary known flags. Frequency is integer 0–4 and severity integer 0–3. Both codes must be zero for an absent domain and both positive for a present domain, including unknown placeholders. Sum frequency×severity for known domains; add 12 for each unknown to the maximum, retaining zero-based unknown domain indices.

knownNPI=Σ(frequency_i×severity_i×known_i); possibleMin=knownNPI; possibleMax=knownNPI+12×unknownCount

Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Actual acquisition, assessment protocol, instrument version and calibration determine applicability. The tool does not examine a person, classify images, administer a questionnaire or choose diagnostic cutoffs.

Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.

Alternative or Complementary methods
